The ORN System is the main setting from Thunder Force III.

Details

The ORN System is a planetary system comprised of six planets which serves as the center of operations of the ORN Empire. These planets are protected by the unmanned battle fortress Cerberus, which makes even approaching these planets impossible.

All planets are governed by the ORN emperor Khaos, which resides on planet ORN, though the planet's location is hidden through cloaking devices installed on the other planets of the system.

Trivia

• All of the planets except ORN are named after characters or creatures from Greek Mythology.
  • Hydra is named after the Hydra, a six-headed serpent that Hercules needed to slay as part of his twelve labors, the monster grows two heads for every one that is decapitated.
  • Gorgon is named after the Gorgon, a female, humanoid monster with snakes for their hair, that can turn people to stone with a single gaze.
  • Seiren is named after the Sirens, a group of mermaid or harpy-like humanoids that lure unlucky sailors to rocky coves, where they eventually drown by shipwreck.
  • Haides is named after Hades, the Greek god of the Underworld, a world where souls of the deceased travel to after death.
  • Ellis is named after Eris, the Greek goddess of discord and chaos, who ultimately caused the Trojan War.
